Changing attitudes toward advertising CPP
This study examines changes in accounting attitudes toward advertising between 1976 and 1988. Three major metropolitan areas in the USA are sampled. More specifically, the article focuses on accountants general attitudes toward advertising and advertising prices and taxes, effects of advertising on services and issues related to consumption, public expectations and government regulations. The results show that, contrary to twelve years ago, accountants today are generally more receptive to advertising by the profession. In addition, less experienced accountants seem to be more receptive to advertising.
The U.S. accounting profession began to organize formally in early 1900. As a necessary step towards the recognition of the profession, the American Association of Accountants has adopted a code of ethics in 1905. Early versions of this professional code are restrictions on advertising and solicitation of clients.
